Why your back hurts (and why it isn't your posture)

You've been told to "sit up straight". That's the wrong advice. Backs don't suffer from a bad position: they suffer from staying still. Eight hours frozen in the same posture — even a perfect posture — and the lumbar discs compress, circulation slows, the deep muscles switch off. That's exactly why a "well-adjusted" chair isn't enough: a perfect position held for too long is still a position held for too long.

Choose the right seat depth

It's the one adjustment the chair can't make for you, and it's the one that matters most. A seat that's too deep presses on the back of your knees; too short, and it stops supporting your thighs.

• 45 cm — recommended up to around 1.75 m tall.
• 48 cm — recommended from around 1.75 m tall.

If in doubt: sit right back in a chair, then measure from the hollow of your back to the back of your knee. Take off 3 cm — that's your ideal depth.

Frequently asked questions

• Does it need charging often? No. One stretch cycle a day lasts around 30 days. If you only use the adjustments, expect up to a year. It charges with the cable supplied, with nothing to dismantle.
• Does the chair work with a flat battery? Yes. Recline, height and armrests all stay mechanical. Only the dynamic support and the motorised stretch need battery power.
• Is assembly complicated? No: the base, the gas lift and the seat slot together, and the backrest arrives pre-assembled. Allow 15 minutes on your own, with the key supplied.
• Is it noisy? The motor only runs during an adjustment or a stretch cycle — a few seconds, at a level comparable to a massage chair. The rest of the time it's completely silent.
• What if the depth isn't right for me? Write to us and we'll arrange the exchange. It's the one thing we can't adjust remotely, so we'd rather sort it out for you.

Maintenance: vacuum the fabric with a soft brush once a month, and check the castors are tight twice a year. The fabric cleans with a damp cloth, no detergent.
