For a consistent result

Sweep the stick once over each lip, then let the colour come up for a few seconds before you judge the result. Go over it again to deepen it. On dry lips the colour catches unevenly: exfoliate them gently with a damp flannel the night before, and the finish will be clean from the very first pass.
